Hello Summer

While the Island is under a strong high pressure system we decided we just had to get out camping for a couple of days. Kayak campsites in the Gulf Island are not numerous and during the summer they are just too busy to rely on 1st come 1st served. So we one has to take advantage of the shoulder season. This week is perfect timing. It feels wonderful to be camping again, especially in such a beautiful spot.

We have been to Wallace Island on day paddles and loved it. Camping here under ideal conditions is a treat and we get to experience the various moods during the day. We took the ferry to Saltspring Island and it was a short 2.5 km crossing to Wallace. After setting up camp we just relaxed in the shade. We enjoyed the scenery, the seals, the many birds, and the water patterns. There is a small passage between Wallace and the neighbouring island so waters flow pretty fast.

Afternoon bliss

Sea stars can be found a plenty clinging to the rocks

But the star of the show was the sunset. It lasted forever, getting more intense as time went on and there was still beautiful colour in the sky after 10pm, thanks to being the longest day of the year. It was a very special day and evening.

This is the view from our campsite. Pretty nice!
This was at 10:15 pm

Today we will paddle around the Secretary Islands and explore. It will be mostly at low tide so I look forward to seeing what we will find in the waters. Best time to paddle!

  1. Your photos as usual, are just stellar. My favorite is the one of the sunset with the log. Outstanding!
